NewsExtension of GSM-R coverage for IRISH RAIL with KAPSCH CARRIERCOMDate: 15/02/2014

The GSM-R network enables the exchange of information to ensure a good operational functioning on the railway network. Since 2014, it is subject to extension by Irish Rail on the Irish network.
That’s why, KAPSCH Carriercom (Historical radio network integrator) chose the range OPTIREP™ of SELECOM and his innovative concept of Long Cell™.
This solution decreases the CAPEX and the OPEX by limiting the number of BTS replaced by optical remotes which are easier to maintain. Furthermore, the Quality of Service (QoS) is improved by removing the residual handover present at the tunnel extremities.
The following configurations detailed the different solutions deployed for Irish Rail which all are supervised through the GPRS of the GSM-R network:
-
Killester: 1 OMU 1+1, 1 Remote
-
Laoghaire: 1 OMU 1+1, 3 Remotes
-
Bray: 1 OMU 1+1, 1 Remote
-
Greystone: 1 OMU 1+1, 2 Remotes
-
Bray Tunnel: Long Cell with 3 Remotes
